GenderArtNet is neither an archive nor a platform for artist profiles. It is a relational map whose primary aim is to thematically link the existing online resources of artists, artworks, projects, networks and organisations in the broader Europe.
Homepage

Homepage provides a general overview of the 17 thematic galaxies, their shape and the items (artists, projects and organizations) related to them.
The shape of each galaxy is produced by the geographical distribution of the items in it. Expanded shapes indicate a wide distribution of the topics associated to a particular galaxy. On the contrary, smaller shapes indicate that the topics associated to a particular galaxy are more concentrated in certain locations.
Bigger dots represent a higher density of items in a particular location. The pink color represents the density of artists and artist collectives. The red color repesents the density of artworks and artistic and cultural projects. The green color represents the density of networks and organizations.

By selecting a galaxy we visualize the main thematic keywords in it. By selecting a keyword we access to a more detailed view of the items associated to this keyword and the galaxy it belongs to.
Browsing galaxies and keywords

The detailed view of a keyword shows the names of the artists, projects or organizations associated to this keyword as well as their geographical location. Other items in the galaxy are also represented, but just in regard to their location, without identifying them.
There are 3 categories of items. Pink dots represent artists and artistic collectives. Red flames represent artworks and artistic and cultural projects. Green flags represent networks and organizations.

Galaxies can be zoomed in and out and scanned north, south, east and west (using the straws and icons on the left of the screen). They can be panned with the mouse by dragging them. If your mouse has a middle button, it can be used to zoom in and out.
Galaxies can also be visualized with two different background layers: the GenderArtNet background or the contours map (using the base layer icon the right of the screen).
Any galaxy can be selected at any time from the upper icons. Selecting a galaxy will show its general shape, and the location of the items associated to it.
Selecting a particular keyword in the galaxy will show the names of the items connected to this topic and their location in the galaxy.
Selecting an icon (like a pink dot, a red flame or a green flag) will show the name of the item associated to it.
Artists, artworks, networks or keywords can also be browsed with the search tool.
